The Leiden Aalders

Uncle Gerard bought an existing knitting factory at the Schapenmart known locally as "the Leidse Breifabriek " previously "Brothers Poot". His three children ,Jacobus ,Henk and Emelie (known as Liet ) inherited the business and ran it for many years . Uncle Gerard died in 1931. Henry Anthony Aalders remembers meeting his widow Aunt Annie during a celebration in Leiden put on in her honour before our emigration to New Zealand in 1956   The knitting factory operated until 1967 when Holland joined the EEC,(Eurpean Economic commission ).  lronically this economic union was the death-knell for the factory since it could no longer compete with knitwear produced in ltaly at much lower wages costs . Have we not heard very similar stories when the USA entered into and promoted Free Trade Agreements with its neighbours ?????  To my father Uncle Gerard and Aunt Annie were rather special. They were his Godparents in 1910 and my Dad , GERARD ADRIAAN JOHAN AALDERS,carried uncle Gerards name , Gerardus  My grand uncle Gerard established the Leiden branch of the Aalders family . 

 Elisabeth Maria van Deenen , born 18 Sept  1907  in Leiden .  Elisabeth had been a school teacher.  Elisabeth died in Leiden on  3 March 2005.             Jacques  died 29 July 1989 also in Leiden , Jacques  was a Director of the Leidse Breifabriek v/h Geb Poot , Jacques served on the  Leiden city Council.He was chair of Historical society “Old Leiden”  and Chair of the R C Employers Federation in Leiden   Jacques and Bep visited the American Aalders in New York  as well as the NZ Aalders , their cousins . 

“Society  Old Leiden” ,printed an Obituary to  Jacques Aalders  it reported that  In 1932 Jacques succeeded his father as Director of the Leidse Breifabriek. in 1922 Jacques then 16 ,attended a trade school in Bradford to learn how the Brits knitted. Later he was sent to Germany to learn about knitting machines .   He attended St  Willibrord College Katwijk aan (Oude) Rijn. After the 1945 liberation, Jacques was elected K V P Leiden City Councillor for the Catholic People’s Party .He remained their representative for 12 years .                                                                                                               He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and of the Manufacturers Association (for Dutch Rhineland) for 21 years and  Chairman for 10 years of the R C Employers Federation Leiden .Jacques was involved cultural exchanges between Leiden  and Oxford both University towns.

Michael Theodorus Aalders ( van Gelderen ) born 16 May 1962 in Utrecht, a person who chose to treat Gerard Aalders as  his father ,      Michel married on 19 October 1991 in Sydney, Nicole Craine ,born 17 June 1966 in Sydney NSW. Michael and Nicole  divorced   .

Oscar Aalders born 12 Jan  1996 in Sydney NSW, Son of Michael Theodorus Aalders, aka van Gelderen , and Nicole Craine  

Elliott Aalders  born 4 May 1998 in Sydney NSW ,Son of Michael Theodorus Aalders,aka van Gelderen , and Nicole Craine  

Johanna Helena Elizabeth Aalders born 10 July 1968 in Paramatta NSW Australia daughter of Gerard Aalders and Louise Schlungel .Johanna married in  Sydney NSW on 14 May 2005 Jacob Alexander van Zanen  ,born 1Aug 1970 in North Vancouver BC Canada

Jacob and Johanna  have 2 children 

             Jacob Lancaster van Zanen born 9 Dec 2004 in Beverwijk HN Netherlands,son of Jacob van Zanen and Johanna Aalders

.         Jazmin Louise van Zanen born 8 July 2008 in Caringbah Sydney NSW,daughter  of  Jacob van Zanen and Johanna Aalders

Bernard Gerard Maria Aalders born 19 sep 1938 in Leiden  ,son of Jacobus Adrianus Emile Aalders and Elizabeth van Deenen . Bernard   married in 1965 Wies Wendels  born  on 5 Nov 1944 in Amsterdam . Wies and Ben divorced . Wies died in 2022. Ben remarried Caroline de Graaf  on 13 Nov 1999.   Ben is  a nuclear scientist .He travelled to Australia to visit his elder brother Gerard  and then travelled on tyo Queensland to see his cousin Henk .Ben since suffered a stroke but recovered well from it .

Maurice and Danielle have two children

Luuk Aalders  born 25 April 2003 in Amsterdam ,son of Maurice and Danielle Went to Damstede lyceum Amsterdam .

Noortje Aalders  born 18 May 2005 in Amsterdam  ,daughter of Maurice and Danielle

Emelie Philomene Aalders ( Emmy) born 26 Nov 1942 in Leiden ,daughter of Jacobus Adrianus          Aalders and Elizabeth van Deenen  partnered by S Vlek

Emelie Philomene Aalders born 18 Ap 1907 in Leiden  daughter of Gerard Gregorius Aalders and Anna van den Meerendonck .Emelie was General Manager Secretary of the Leidse Breifabriek v/h Geb Poot for 40 years.until 1968 when the firm wound up She loved to sing and started the Alma Mater Choir in Leiden .She was honourede by the Queen of the Netherlands and elevated into the Order of Oranje Nassau .She died in Leiden 21 Nov  2005, She was not married .

Hendrik Adriaan Aalders  born 28 Feb 1910 in Leiden ,son of Gerard Gregorius Aalders and Anna van den Meerendonck . Hendrik married on 26 August 1941 in leiden, Johanna Maria Emerancia Groenewegen , born 29 Jun 1918  in Leiden . Hendrik died 17 Aug 1967 in Leiden .Hendrik was a Director of the Leidse Breifabriek v/h Geb Poot

Teun Aalders born 20 Nov 2008 in Alphen aan de Rijn son of Daan  Gerard  and Loes van der Pijl  .He was 11 at the time of his fathers death ,

Moos Aalders  born 2012 in Alphen aan de Rijn he was 7 when his Papa died ,

Gerard Jozef Bernard Marinus  Aalders born 19 Mar 1951 in leiden  Jacob is the son of Hendrik Adriaan Aalders and Johanna Groenewegen .Gerard  married Yvonne van der Vliet who was born on 25 Dec 1951 in  Alphen aan de Rijn .  Gerard has a Facebook Account under Ge Aalders .
